WordPress Battleship

WordPress is bar none the best website solution available — in fact it is a fully featured Content Management System.

Businesses of all sizes, including 27 of the 100 biggest blogs in the world from CNN and NYTimes Blogs, TechCrunch, Mashable, and ProBlogger to mom and pop stores and beyond use and love WordPress for these same reasons I am describing, but its use is hardly limited to traditional blogging.

If it is good enough for them, is it good enough for you? Read on to find out.

The key thing you should know about WordPress is that it has a comprehensive private dashboard / administration panel that gives you control over all elements of the content and design on the site, and allows anyone with the ability to make a document in MS Word to save money by updating their own site from any computer in the world at any time.

Unlike most cases, all of this power and control does -not- come at the cost of ease of use or safety! Because WordPress is continually updated by the open source community in conjunction with Automattic, Inc. there is extremely good security against attacks, spam, and viruses.

Aside from the points I have already mentioned, you should use WordPress because:

  1. It is 100 percent…

  2. Free

WordPress is entirely free and will forever remain so. Located at wordpress.org is the open source version of the WordPress software that anyone can download and install on their own host (and should). This is made possible by the contributions of a large and dedicated open source community, as well as the support of Automattic, the company behind wordpress.com. Hosting costs are not free, however, but if you are reading this post chances are you are already paying for it and would not have to increase that payment by a penny.

Unlike WordPress.org, WordPress.com is a hosting service where anyone can create blog-name.wordpress.com and opt not to pay any hosting fees, although they have to accept advertisements displayed on their blog or else pay for the premium version. WordPress.com is one of the top ten most trafficked websites in the world as it incorporates all of these blogs under its wing. The two sites use identical technology but one is hosted, vs. independent. In September of 2009, there were 202 Million websites running WordPress, and 62.8 Million in the United States alone.

  3. Lightning Fast
  4. Installation takes less than one minute on all hosts if done manually, and most hosting control panels contain tools such as Fantastico that allow even simpler installation of the software. This may sound a tiny bit complicated, but in fact if you can enter a user name and password you can do it too.

Once you have installed the software, you can log in to the dashboard where all the action happens. Here is a screenshot of what ours looks like currently:

Not only is zero to live on the web lightning fast but you can also direcly install any of the thousands of plugins, widgets, and themes with a few clicks without ever leaving the dashboard!

  5. Peanut Butter and Jelly Easy
  6. This is probably the best part of WordPress: updating your website is as easy as using MS Word. With the “What You See Is What You Get” editor you can be publishing content in a snap:

Easily browse for photos to upload, click insert, and you have just updated your website! You will save so much time over traditional websites where if you did not hire a firm like us, you would have to manually use an FTP client, upload the image, edit the HTML code, and then finally your image is up – this is at least a 1000% time savings.

  7. Hercules Powerful
  8. Do not be fooled by how easy it is to install plugins, widgets, and themes– they offer a fantastic range and depth of functionality.

    • Want to get more search engine traffic? The All-In-One Search Engine Optimization plugin is a few clicks away– and still super simple to use.

    • Want to see in depth analysis of the visitors to your site and measure the conversion rate for your product, service, or RFP? Google Analytics is again just a few clicks away with all of those answers and more.

    • Want to make your website load even faster (one of the key elements of gaining and retaining visitors)? The WP-Cache plugin will make your new WordPress installation about two to three times faster by caching the pages in advance.

On top of all of this, WordPress automatically enables RSS Feeds so that visitors can subscribe to all future updates of your site or blog, and come right back for more. Want to setup an email newsletter there is a plugin for that too! Believe me when I say this is only scratching the surface of the possibilities with WordPress extensions.

  9. Infinitely Customizable
  10. WP CustomizedSource: WebDesignerWall

Whether its changing the design, content, or functions and features of your website, it is all customizable within the WordPress dashboard. However, many hire a firm such as Nielson Design to do the Design and Customization work as the popularity of free themes mean that if you use one your site will look identical to many others.

In this flat world we live in the competition is more fierce than ever and everyone in business knows that differentiation is critical. The appearance of a WordPress site can literally change in every way imaginable.

Colors, Fonts, Layouts, Elements, Features, Functions, and More adjustments are all at your fingertips, but we are happy to coordinate all of these powerful options into one coherent site for you.

If you happen to like this site, then just remember — it was all done by us in less than a week and we would love to do it for you. :)
